AIR Crockett Historical Tour

The Anderson Center For The Arts resident artists and staff toured historical sites located in Crockett, TX, led by cultural custodian and an artist mentor, Viktor Le Givens (@southernandroid00) as apart of his “Dreaming South” Anthropological Excavation Case Study series.

Viktor guided us through Crockett as we learned about historic preservation in East Texas and how black migration stories still affect us today. We visited the Mary Allen Seminary along with land and sites that are tied to Viktor’s familial history including a piece of land that historically hosted baptisms.

Our artists were able to learn about heritage preservation techniques, ancestral mapping, and mediation/vision making, thanks to our artist mentor, @southernandroid00 who made this experience open to anyone that wants to learn.

As a non-profit, our ability to support black creatives depends on generous donations from our friends like you this
